In the realm of Abshir, the sun guides our journey. Limited-edition styles with customizable fits tell stories rooted in Ethiopian heritage, awaiting the touch of individual expression. We're committed to sustainability, meticulously sourcing recovered fabrics from California and other vendors around the US, aiming to keep sourcing as local as possible. Our woven textiles are sourced from Ethiopia, in honor of Abshir’s roots. Beyond aesthetics, each phase of our product's lifecycle is dedicated to both people and the planet. Weaving sustainability into the very fabric of our design philosophy.
As we envision the future, our ambition intensifies, our overarching goal is to fund a program that relentlessly supports women’s education in Ethiopia, in honor of Abshir’s roots and a local ocean conservation program in San Diego. This is an intentional step towards redefining the intersection of luxury and sustainability.
MATERIALS & PRODUCTION
90% of our production lies in the hands of talented local seamstresses in the sun kissed landscapes of California.
Spring 2023 marks a notable milestone of sustainable innovation. A collaboration with a women owned Brazilian business, where 10% of our production lies. And the addition of swimwear made with biodegradable nylon. With manufacturing practices that uphold a deep respect for fair labor practices, adhering to ethical wage and working conditions, and share values dear to the Fashion Revolution movement.
In order to minimize the movement of goods we source the majority of materials within the US, with the exception of specialty fabrics that honor our roots in Ethiopia.
Tailoring and Repairs
We want your experience to be uniquely yours, offering the flexibility to edit sizes, enhancing the allure of your chosen piece. Our fit-to-size approach means each creation is made to order or made to measure, weaving a tapestry of satisfaction tailored just for you.
In our pursuit of ethical fashion and a sustainable mission, we extend a lifetime repair service for all Abshir pieces. Think of it as a gentle embrace to elongate your garment's life. If your piece needs a little TLC, a simple form submitted on our Tailoring and Repair page is all it takes.
When you decide it is time to let go of your treasured garments, our Return Request form stands ready to welcome them back. In gratitude, a discount code awaits for your next journey with us, aligning with our belief in a circular fashion approach. We offer this to encourage our customers to not get rid of any garments before it's necessary. If the issue is self-inflicted we will offer the services for a fee, but if the garment is not living up to the necessary standard we offer the service for free.
PACKAGING
By minimizing the amount of packaging that we use, we aim to ensure that all packaging is as sustainable as possible. Our boxes and packaging slips are made from recycled fibers and are recyclable and, or reusable. Alongside personalized cards embedded with wildflower seeds that you can simply plant.
