ETHIOPIAN Specialty FABRICS

Traditional handwoven fabrics in Ethiopia have a long history, rich with traditional dressing customs across the country. With hand weaving and embroidery techniques that represent a significant diversity in ethnicity. The traditional fabrics are made on handlooms and the practice is inherited from one generation to the next. With different patterns designed by weaving or hand embroidery techniques. The adaptability of fibers used in the making of a fabric and cultural practices all play an important role in how fashion and the aesthetics have formed and developed over time. An honorable mention to the Dorze in southern Ethiopia who have an artisinally crafted and adapted locally grown false banana leaves that are woven into textile, incredibly structured houses.

Our upcycled materials make up the majority of our pieces, everything from buttons, zippers, and jewels are carefully selected and recovered from well preserved, pre-loved garments.
