UHURU SS21
Uhuru," derived from Swahili, serves as the embodiment of freedom in this bespoke swimwear collection. The pieces pay homage to and draw inspiration from Ethiopian tilet, a motif designed traditionally to border Ethiopian clothing that is handmade in Ethiopia's weaving communities for centuries. With a made-to-measure and a fit-to-size approach. A distinctive tilet print was crafted using a digital printing process that employs heat and pressure to adorn recycled polyester married with locally sourced, uniquely cut spandex.
Uhuru, is a manifestation of creative freedom, emerging from a nurturing space where each piece meets the sun for the first time. It marks the birth of Abshir’s inaugural capsule swimwear collection. The conceptualization of these swimwear pieces mirrors the photography style, representing a collective effort to create a space where freedom and creativity coexist. In embracing this statement of liberation, Uhuru not only celebrates individual expression but also encapsulates the essence of creative freedom in the realm of swimwear fashion.
