Zufan is an interpretation of African beauty practices, specifically drawing inspiration from the intricate markings on the body that hold cultural significance in many African tribes. Scarification patterns not only denote lineage but can also possess protective properties. The process involves ritualistic practices with healing potions applied, transmitting complex messages through intricate patterns. Much like clothing is an extension of oneself, these body markings can be considered an autobiography on the body.
"Zufan," meaning crown in Amharic, this collection pays homage to the scars that lead up to one's crown, or perceived final destination. The exploration of textures in the collection aims to create a sculptural and textural playground for the cutaneous senses, going beyond what meets the eye.
